Gaming Voiceover FAQ
What sort of video game voices do you do?
As a video game voice actor I have to be versatile. Many games want a natural, authentic and emotional connected style. My acting training allows me to do this with ease. Characters have ranged from ethereal beings to weary soldiers, motherly comedic characters to sadistic queens.
My natural voice is British RP, but I’ve worked extensively in a standard US accent and various UK regional accents too (Northern, Scottish, Welsh, West Country, Liverpool etc). My natural vocal age range is 30s to 40s, but I’ve played characters in their 20s and much, much older women – even the un-dead!
How much does a gaming voiceover cost in the UK?
Gaming voiceover is usally paid by the hour with a buy-out payment on top for the usage and distribution of the game. Guideline rates are available on request – conact me for a quote tailored to your brief. My Basic Studio Fee is £300.00 but find out more about game voiceover rates and usage on my studio page.
Do you work for big games or indies?
I’m lucky to have worked with a wide range of video game producers – some of the biggest names and studios, to smaller indie game producers. I’m proud to be an indie game voice actor associated with Quiet Things.
Where do you record?
I live close to London and can travel to recording studios. Plus I can record broadcast-ready audio from my professional home studio, suitable for video game quality. As a voice actor for games uk I can connect via Source Connect, Cleanfeed, Teams or whichever system suits you!
Can you record from a script with placeholder or non-final dialogue?
Yes. As a trained actor with experience in improvisation and divsed theatre, I am comfortable with this.
Do you handle efforts, combat vocals and non-verbal performance?
Ahhh, the wallah session! I’ve done a lot of this over the years. From figuring out how a telepathic hyena may communicate to endless battle scenes. It’s all abou the detail. When it says ‘falling’ – how far, from what, to where etc. Each ‘fall’ will sound different.
How do you manage pronunciation of invented names, lore terms and fictional languages?
It’s great if you have a pronunciation guide if I can’t research this myself before a session. But I’ve done enough foreign language work and medial narration to be comfortable with the wonderful world of video game language and lore.
Can you work to a pickup or re-record schedule?
Yes. I work full time as a voiceover artist so my availability is great. I’m very good at matching my tone and style, even if years have passed between sessions!
Do you provide voicerover services to other parts of the voice acting industry?
Absolutely! As well as my character voices for games, I have extensive experience in TV, Cinema and Radio commercials to voice work. I also provide voiceovers for corporate videos and online explainers. I’m a trained actress and have provided countless characters to audio dramas, audio books and animations too. I’ve also supplied my British voice to IVR/Telephone systems, e-learning and I’ve been the voice-of-God at events.
